I have been ripping most of my DVD’s via MakeMKV on my Mac to retain the lossless quality and quite frankly, it’s just simple. I have found that when I play the files on my Mac via VLC, I get subtitles during required foreign scenes as expected. When I watch the same file on my iPad or AppleTV via the PLEX app, I am unable to view subtitles. With the AppleTV, my files are streaming and are being transcoded. Since I am sync’ing my iPad, I assume it is transcoding/converting as well.
Can someone please tell me the correct settings to display the subtitles that are already a part of the MKV file. I have been banging my head for a while now. The one thing I am trying to avoid is re-ripping or changing that process. But I will if that is the only way.
