I can't see the subtitles of a mkv movie in the apple tv. The subtitles are ok if I play the movie in my MAC (VLC). Any help?
Are you selecting the subs on the pre-play screen?
Yes!, there I can see all the languages I can select, but they don't appear when I'm watching the movie.
Do they appear if you use the iOS/desktop/android client and if so which ones?
OS X 10.8.4
Plex Media Server: 0.9.7.28
APTV3 5.2.1

I've got the same problem with subtitles and movies. TVShows (mkv) with external subs (srt) works. I can select on preplay screen and PMS subtitle "unknown (srt)". For movies (mkv) and external subs (srt) i can't select the external subs. It only shows internal subs from mkv file. "unknown (srt)" is not available and selectable. The names of the mkv and srt files are the same.
yes i have too this problem, the subtitles work only from internal and not from external HDD
Hi Rocky star, thank you for your help!. I'm not sure I understand your question. They appear in my desktop using VLC. I can choose English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese....Using Plex Media Server and APTV, I can select them in the pre-play screen but doesn't work. The subtitles are internal, not (srt) external.

The question is...
Do those subtitles work in any other Plex based client - preferably iOS?
VLC is a completely different story, there is no PMS involved!

What specifically did you do?
Rename them, convert them or something else?
Subtitle and movie files with exactly the same name and in Plex Media Server Settings, Agents, Freebase: mark all the options. In opensubtitles.org, select Language 1 and Language 2. English and Spanish in my case. Finally choose your preferences in Languages.
how do i get the subtitles in the mkv file to work then ?
