MKV subtitles... what's changed in Plex?

Server Version#:1.31.3.6868
Player Version#:1.66.1

Recently the MKV files that I have are playing subtitles regardless of me choosing not to play them. In Plex Player Playback Settings Subtitles is set to “None”.

They are also being displayed at the top of screen regardless of my Plex Playback Settings. So… I can’t turn them off with controls available to me in Plex Player and I can’t choose where to display them.

Looking into the MKV file itself it appears to be that the “Default Track” flag is selected and “Forced display” is not selected. I think this is not the issue, something has changed in how Plex is handling MKV subtitles.

Editing/multiplexing hundreds of files to turn off the “Default” flag on the subtitles seems overly burdensome.

I posted about this a wee or so ago… if you want to see a screenshot of the issue.

This issue was fixed in Plex Player 1.67.1

Embeded Closed Captions are no longer automatically playing without choosing them in the Playback Settings Menu AND when they are chosen their location is according to user settings.

Adding a link to a solution previous to the Plex fix.
