For a while i’ve used Box4 to remux mkvs to mp4s for compatibility reasons. For some reason lately i’ve noticed that when i remux a movie or show from mkv to mp4, it wont play properly on Apple TV or iOS devices. It’ll play correctly on the Plex for windows and others. On apple devices there will be no video playing but I can hear the audio playing like normal. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have used both ffmpeg and box4 to remux mkv to mp4 and both have started doing this.
Out of curiosity did you ever try any of the files on the ATV before you muxed them to mp4?
This may sound strange since you hear audio, but the issue could be the audio track. Issues playing the audio properly can affect the video getting rendered.
- try another audio track if you have one
- encode the audio to something else
You can try remuxing the file without any audio to test this theory.
yes, if i leave them as MKV they work fine on ATV and ios. it’s only after remuxing them to mp4 do they only play audio and not video.

so one thing i figured out is it only has this issue when I remux a HEVC/H265 mkv to mp4…any idea why that codec would affect it this way?
HEVC/H265 should be fine. Can you provide the xml info from PMS for one of these videos?

No, that’s just the link. You need to call it up on your computer and save the output to a text file. Upload that text file.
