I would like to see an option in the mobile apps for subtitles. The reason is that I have subtitles default to on in the PMS for the benefit of my mother and my wife. But I don’t want to have to transcode the subtitles for watching or syncing on my iPhone. I know there is an option per file but that can be tedious.
What I would like to see is a subtitle setting per device. So in the (in my case) iOS app I can have three options for subtitles: Default (Uses PMS settings), On and Off. And then each file has three options in the app Default (Uses mobile app setting), On and Off. That way if I want to quickly sync a season of a tv show that are in the correct setting but have subtitles I don’t have to wait for the video transcode.
Edit:
Ugh, can anyone change the title, I misspelled it because I’m slightly (extremely) dumb. Also I’m on IE at work which doesn’t have built in red lines of you’re doing it wrong.
Early 2021 clean-up: implemented (subtitle settings are available on account level; most current-generation clients support direct playback of text-based subtitles, some also playback of image-based subtitles)
