Settings for subtitles on iOS Plex app

I am looking to change the subtitles from the default white to the more common (for me) yellow in the iOS apps (i.e. iPhone and iPad).

Though I know where the settings are in the Plex Server for setting the subtitle options (i.e. color, size, alignment, etc) which will work on the web player through the browser(s), I do not see the same options in the Plex app for iOS.

The subtitles for my media is generally SRT and though I am able to change the color using Subtitle Edit it is a bit time consuming rather than having the web player just do the appropriate changes across the devices (and basically what Jellyfin does).

The only options in the iOS App > Settings/Gear > Advanced for subtitles are…

  • Burn Subtitles
  • Override Subtitles Styles
  • Subtitle Vertical Position

Am I perhaps missing something simple or is it not actually supported? I did try to turn on/off the override but that did not seem to do anything.

On a side note, I noticed in Jellyfin the subtitles are in the black border in the bottom, out of the way of the picture, but in Plex it is in the picture and bleeds into the bottom border if the text does more than one line. Not sure if there is an offset for that in the iOS app but I did not see that, or resizing, anywhere.

it uses the iOS system setting for that. Accessibility>Subtitles & Captions and create a new “Style” where you can choose whatever font, color, ,size, background that is available to the system

Thanks for the quick reply @BigWheel …that’s exactly what I was looking for
