I want to reopen the “Showing the love for Plexamp” thread. I think we need such a place. I like the app so much, I even stopped yearning for cue-file support. That’s totally irrational. But hey, it’s love.
Agreed. I haven’t had this much fun listening to streaming music since Rdio went bankrupt in 2015. Can’t believe that was only 8 years ago, it feels like I’ve suffered longer than that with every other streaming service – they all suck (I’ve tried ALL of them, including Roon which is a very similar concept to Plexamp). I’m so glad I found Plexamp last year.
PlexAmp truly is FANTASTIC - not yet perfect (but we all have our requirements, so nothing ever is), but it is by far the BEST solution out there for music-lovers (dare I see better than Roon? - insert flame war here ) -
My setup - Plexamp on the desktop feeding a DAC to a nice pair of cans
Plexamp on my phone for when I am on the move in my car or on the train
Plexamp in the living room R/Pi with HifiBerry Digital card feeding an amp and speakers
Plexamp in the bedroom R/Pi with HifiBerry DAC feeding a nice pair of closedback cans.
I just wish there was a better way to keep Plexamp Headless up to date (the script provided work s well - but it would be nice if it was packaged and part of the update repository - same as Plex for Ubuntu server).
Totally agree.
Without Plexamp I would forget about all those gems I had ripped years ago. The memories that music bring are priceless and Plexamp helps delivery this for me and my family.
To roughly quote Empire Records…“music is the glue that holds the world together, man” and Plexamp is an important part of that for me.
Keep up the excellent and much appreciated work.
I will never ever go back to Roon because I once politely criticized the functionality (no flaming, no personal attacks, nothing untoward), included a bunch of data to support my conclusion, and instead of listening to the feedback they just straight up banned me from posting on the forum for 3 months. It was really bizarre.
Fully agree! My favorite player by far, there are some killer features and I really admire the effort you guys put in the headless Pi solution. It creates such flexibility in use cases. I feel it’s rare for a company nowadays to actually deliver on something like this.
On top of the CarPlay streaming options from my app, the headless pi option has completely changed the way I manage and think about hi-fi streaming in my house. Combined with a DAC hat, it’s the best integration of combining fidelity and playlist cultivation.
+1 PlexAmp is one of the most reliable music apps I’ve ever used. Hi-res audio, helps you discover your own music library in clever ways, how can you not love it?!
PlexAmp is a music lovers dream so please keep up the great work team
I was recently reminded how much I love Plexamp when after I started a sonic adventure, we had a power outage that lasted several hours over the weekend. My entire adventure played. And when it was done, I still opened and played previous sonic adventures that I had saved before. And then my played albums from favorite musicians. My phone shows that I have 23 hours of offline music saved.
This was truly awesome as it didn’t ruin a day I wanted to spend at home relaxing over the weekend. I could still listen to the music that I wanted with sweet fades and the ability to rediscover forgotten classics because they will show up in my sonic adventure and trigger memories of “the first time I heard this song”, “oh, remember Spencer used to get the lyrics to this wrong…” And what’s more, some of these have no metadata associated with them and alert me to the fact that an album I thought I didn’t have just wasn’t matched… but Plexamp will unearth it and serve it up.
Plexamp is pure music freedom. And has me exploring music in such a classic way. If I hear something on a streaming service I like, I buy the CD, or Digital version to support the artist, and add to my library and listen to it literally everywhere I want to listen. ’
Best part is, the Plexamp devs are also music fanatics so if you have a good idea to make the player better they actually tinker with it and bake it right in. May Plexamp rock on forever.
