Developers on projects such as Plexamp (and the wider Plex ecosystem) are no doubt inundated with problems and issues to resolve, if not from their QA engineers, then from the general public in forums like this.
I just want to say that I’ve been using Plexamp for over a year now and in that time it has been flawless and, in fact, more than I could have asked for. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everybody who’s put the effort into making Plexamp the awesome app that it is, including the people on this forum who have provided lightning-fast responses whenever I’ve needed assistance with using the app.
Edit
I just realised after posting this, that I may get some abuse for describing Plexamp as “flawless”. To clarify, my use-case is perhaps simple compared to some others. I found myself mostly listening to music that I already own through Spotify, which was an expensive way of dodging the effort required to rip my own music. Last year, I bit the bullet and used a couple of apps to rip my entire CD collection. I then pointed Plex at my carefully curated library and everything has mostly “just worked”. There are obviously some known-issues that are well documented in this forum, but ultimately they don’t spoil my enjoyment of listening to my music, and features like the radio stations and sweet fades work great so I’m more than happy.
We all have different use cases and different experiences with a service. Your supremely positive experience is just as worth posting about as anyone having issues or wanting extra features
I, too, have found Plexamp revolutionary for my music listening experience. I fully second your entire post!
+1 for plexamp revolutionizing my music experience…I totally “plexed” my library of 99 artists, 194 albums, and 4780 tracks, and I’m not going back to itun3s, spot1fy or anything else.
My favorite parts of Plexamp are it’s small footprint (compared to the full Plex browser/app experience); it’s focus on the task of listening to music (in comparison to both the full app and other music apps); it’s “Plex-ness” (e.g., being able to download and play music without a network connection); and very specifically, the intelligent use of ML to automatically select music that’s “like” the music I suggest as prompts. This last feature is used in several ways, and I like all of them. The last two features–the “Plex-ness” and the ML–move Plexamp from being an app I like to an app I love.
I’ll also suggest a little spin on what I’m sure can feel like an endless list of feature requests and bug reports. That was the original reason I came here this morning, before I saw this thread. Most everyone who’s doing that, IMO, is showing love for this app. Plexamp isn’t something like Excel that people have to use; there are dozens of ways to listen to music, and even several ways to listen to music on a Plex server. They’re choosing to use Plexamp, because they love it. And they want to see it improved because they love it; otherwise they’d just use one of the dozens of other apps and never tell you about it.
Like I said, my excitement about this app leads me to have a lot of specific opinions on ways to improve it. I’ll go find the appropriate place to post about that elsewhere in this forum. But I think another reason I have so many ideas, besides my personal excitement, is that this app lives in such a unique space for a music player. There is so much territory here to explore at the intersection of library ownership, task focus, and autonomy. Plexamp is alone in this space, as far as I can tell. All the things you can explore with this app…it’s amazing!
Thanks for developing Plexamp. I hope your passion for developing it stays as high as my passion for using it.
