Long time PLEX user and love the advances that come out all the time. I am especially enjoying all the love the developers are devoting to music right now. Especially since I never really used PLEX much for streaming my music collection, only video. Even though I have the music library set up on PLEX, my go to has been Subsonic and I will tell you why.
Folder View!!!
I actually just recently found that you can browse your music library in folder view on PLEX but it lacks so many features that the "All" view has. Now, why do I like folder view? Well, the biggest reason is because my music library is quite extensive. In each of my artist folders I have created, I break their catalog into the folders: Albums, EPs, Singles, Live, Compilations and Unofficial. Now while I like having my entire collection available to me, I usually listen to albums or EPs. So when I want to browse through my artist's collection, it is rather annoying to browse through 20 singles before I get to the album I want. So that is where folder view comes in handy. I select the artist, then I select Albums and wallah, I don't have any singles or bootleged live albums to scroll through. I would love it if the following features could be added to Folder view.
- Thumbnails of album covers (Artist thumbnails would be cool too but not necessary)
- The letter legend on the right side, so I can choose a letter instead of scrolling through the alphabet
- Other features, such as popular songs and music videos, just like in the "All" view
- More song details such as the song length
- Poster backgrounds
- Options to sync and download
In fact the Music library could look exactly the same as the "All" view, but then break down into my suggestion above once an artist is selected.
Well, I'm not sure how many are as ■■■■ about their collection as I am but I would really enjoy my music experience on PLEX a lot more and probably throw Subsonic out the window if these features were implemented. Hope to see them soon. If not, I still enjoy all the developments. An e-mail about a PLEX update is always like an XMas present. Can never wait to see what new features I'm about to open.
