More RAM make difference for PLEX?

I have a Synology DS1520+ with 8gigs of RAM… I have a 16gig RAM stick that I bought to add more RAM.
Would adding more RAM ; for a total of 20GIGS make any “real” difference in the performance of PLEX?

No. The CPU can’t address more than 8GB.

I know DSM reports more but that’s pure fakery

  1. Each DIMM has a SPD chip which tells the memory controller (and OS) its specs (timing & sizing)z
  2. At boot, the OS queries everything, does some basic math (multiply) and comes up with “Installed” total. (NOT whether or not it can be used)

Per Intel (maker of the chip) — 8GB is all that can be used.

If you want to understand more about the SPD chip, –

Before someone jumps on me, 64 bit CPUs can address 2^64 bits = 256TIB logically

The challenge is: How many address lines are on the motherboard and how is it wired ??

Like I said before but i guess someone didn’t believe it…those charts are BS. Oh look, my Windows VM using 12 all by itself. Everything else sharing 4. YES you can install more than 8 (I have only used 16, no idea about more) and it works.

BUT, no it doesn’t make any difference in Plex. Plex barely uses any.
