Let me preface this by saying I have already DONE all this work… When I wrote this originally I was STILL working on the project. I has posted as a general help question…but just went ahead and did it all the hard way. But, I am posting here now to see if others understand and like the idea… (someone did and told me to post it here now…)
I am creating a full Star Trek Playlist. This list contains every episode of every Star Trek including animated series and all movies (to date.)
When I added the series’ I did so an entire series at a time.
All Enterprise
All Star Trek (TOS)
All Animated
All TNG
All DS9
All Voyager
All Movies
Now I am doing the re-ordering of episodes into their corrected play position based on stardates thanks in part to this site: http://thestartrekchronologyproject.blogspot.com/
Had I been thinking I would have done some of them a season at a time instead of the entire series… I have been moving episodes from say season 1 of Voyager down into season 3 of DS9. This means I have to get one episode and move it through 4.5 seasons of DS9 to the right spot. This means dragging through pages and pages of episodes. I have spent many many hours doing this as DS9 overlapped TNG and Voyager overlaps DS9.
Here is an example of what it looks like:
Begin Season 3 DS9
427 DS9 The Search, Part 1
428 DS9 The Search, Part 2
429 DS9 The House of Quark
430 DS9 Equilibrium
431 DS9 Second Skin
432 DS9 The Abandoned
433 DS9 Civil Defense
Begin Season 1 VOY
434 VOY Caretaker C
435 DS9 Meridian
436 VOY Parallax
437 DS9 Defiant C
438 DS9 Fascination
439 DS9 Past Tense, Part 1
440 DS9 Past Tense, Part 2
441 VOY Time and Again
442 DS9 Life Support
443 DS9 Heart of Stone
444 VOY Phage
As you can see…there is a TON of moving around. So to my question: IS there any way to move more than one item at a time? If not, can this please end up on a suggestion list somewhere? I am only 2/3 done with the entire TV series edits and already been close to 5 hours of moving… Again, had I thought about it earlier I would have simply started over and added seasons closer to each other where I would have only moved episodes THROUGH one season at the most…
And of course now it dawned on me I could put the movies into this playlist as well… Which means I will have to move the first 6 movies through 520 positions EACH…one at a time. UGH!!!
Lastly…I wonder…is it possible to SHARE play lists… In other words, I have done all this work and I would love to share it with others that may have all the shows so that THEY can benefit from this… They can watch series’ in their entirety in proper order…
Thanks…
Greg
So my feature requests would be this:
*** A way to edit the playlist directly (text file, etc…)?
*** A way to select the item (or group of items) in the current playlist that we wish to move and then enter a playlist position number.
Example: I want to move Star Trek The Motion Picture from position 717 to 198
Or select all the original movies (positions 717-722) to start at position 198
*** A way to NOT lose a position of an episode or movie if that copy is replaced or doesn’t exist in the local library (grey it out with option to turn it back on and select an ep/movie from the library.)
Example: I updated all my movies to 1080p HD versions from their original 480p version 2 days ago…I just noticed that they are all gone from my Star Trek Playlist…even though the file names are identical and the PLEX name info is identical to the old… UGH!!! means I now have to move all TOS and TNG movies one at a time through 600+ lines… KILL ME NOW!!! lol
*** The above would be necessary if sharing lists is added as apparently a list where the original eps/movies are not available at the time someone installs the shared playlist.
