Loving Plex and PlexAmp - I moved my Plex Server installation to a much beefier machine (helping with the transcoding, I hope - but mainly because I want to consolidate workloads into a single machine - not having a bunch of single use servers taking up space and power).
All play history from Plex was transferred - but not in PlexAmp - is there a history file that I can move across to the new server?
Both are running Linux - If there is a file that contains my PlexAmp play history (I am sure there is), what is it, and in which folder can I find it?
The history only lives in the server. If you have truly moved all your server data, it should have transferred.
If you have changed the path to your media files after the move, playback data could have been lost, because music is not as throroughly “matched” to a metadata ID as e.g. movies or tv shows.
If you are moving your Plex server to a different machine, plan ahead and make it so that none of your media files is changing its storage location (from Plex’s point of view). Utilize the naming of mount points or the mapping of folder in VMs/containers to achieve this.
If done right, you won’t even have to renew all the analysis data.
All of the above though is not really possible if you are consolodating several Plex servers into one.
If you are talking about “Recent Plays”: that should sync between all your Plexamp installs via your account. But that sync can be disabled in the Plexamp settings.
I copied the libraries, installed a new server on the new location, let it do its thing. I saw the watched indicators match to what I watched. I then unclaimed the old server. But when I open the PlexAmp application - the history is empty.
All watch data is synchronised with Plex.
The locations of the files have changed. This is inevitable in the new server.
I still have the other server - I could reclaim that one - but what would be the process for getting the PlexAmp history across?
Unfortunately there is none, to my knowledge. By unclaiming the old server, its machine ID became invalid. Music playback data are likely bound to the server. If that server is no longer there, there are no playback data.
I made an export of the Server Database of the old machine. Is there a readme/manual entry you can point me to with instructions how to put it in the right place? I probably need to amend it since the paths have changed.
Thanks! It is approx 2 years of history - I love my statistics
If it can’t be done… oh well… But I am willing to put some time and effort in it.
For as long as you follow the advise on support and not enable emptying trash until you’re absolutely certain everything has moved across and matched accurately. If you have a large library of music that may take a while. Speaking from experience wait a few days to ensure.
