If you tried streaming the same media that was giving your problems before, either your PMS server load was lighter, nw traffic was lighter, or more likely you had less external WiFi interference from neighbors/weather conditions, etc.
That is why I am NOT a fan of WiFi (especially most of the consumer stuff) because they don’t give you nearly enough data to be able to rule out potential causes.
I managed to replicate the buffering:
I played a 4k movie from Shield and another 4k movie streaming on TV. I attach the log, I hope you can find something Plex Media Server Logs_2019-02-14_19-42-33.zip (6.2 MB)
…
Ok @mienos… we see the buffering in the PMS logs, but not the cause.
So let’s do a couple things.
Please turn OFF the verbose logging on the PMS server settings. It adds ALOT of info we don’t need and makes it hard to read.
Turn on debug logging on the your Samsung Plex Client.
Reproduce the issue again and get me both sets of logs.
One thing to keep in mind too is that when you are trying to stream multiple movies at the same time, your USB HDD’s performance can start coming into play.
I noticed something, I do not know if it can affect the buffering. In the Shield, the “Maximum level H264” setting is set to “5.2 (recommended)”, while on the TV that gives me buffering it was set to “5.1 (recommended)”.
It depends on your source media file and whether you are direct play or transcoding.
Also that will vary based on the capabilities/performance of the device as well. The Shield is MUCH beefier of a machine that the stuff included in the “smart” TV’s.
