Movie Extras - Format question

I have tried following the formats outlined on this page:

Local Media Assets
and I am just having no luck.

I have tried both methods. I am wondering if my naming of the FOLDER is not correct. In all the examples (almost all on the entire site) use simple names such as

Avatar (2009)

This is used in examples for the name of the folder and the movie:

/Movies
/Avatar (2009)
Avatar (2009).mkv

However, I would bet that MANY of us use Filebot to name our files with more information. For example, my Avatar movie file is:

Avatar (Extended) [2009, PG-13, 178 Min] (Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver) (Action, Adventure, Fantasy).mkv

So here is my question:
Must I name my Avatar folder that way
/Movies
/Avatar (Extended) [2009, PG-13, 178 Min] (Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver) (Action, Adventure, Fantasy)
/Avatar (Extended) [2009, PG-13, 178 Min] (Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver) (Action, Adventure, Fantasy).mkv

If this is honestly how they created PLEX to recognize the movies inside the folders that is ridiculous. Folder name should NOT matter when it comes to what is inside the folder. In my mind anyways. And maybe it doesn’t…thus, my question.

For local media assets of bonus features, interviews, etc to work MUST I name the movie’s container folder exactly the same as the movie FILE?

Thanks!

My info, as always: Latest version of PLEX server: Version 1.8.1.4139

Plex ignores anything in square brackets. Chances are with your file name example, it’s just making it’s best guess at your movies because the year is an important part of the information it uses to match. If you want to keep all of that information in the file name, I would try something like:

Avatar (2009) [Extended] [PG-13, 178 Min] [Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver] [Action, Adventure, Fantasy].mkv

That way, the name and year of the movie are up front and in a format Plex recognizes easily.

You didn’t mention what folder name you use, but I usually just include the name of the movie and the year:

Avatar (2009)

Local extras work with either method described on the page you linked to, i have used both methods:
Avatar (2009)
… Avatar (2009) [Extended] [All that other stuff].mkv
… Avatar-trailer.mkv
… Interviews-behindthescenes.mkv
… etc, etc
or
Avatar (2009)
… Avatar (2009) [Extended] [All that other stuff].mkv
… \Trailers
… … Avatar.mkv
… \Behind the Scenes
… … Interviews.mkv
… etc, etc

Ok… Plex never has had issues with the format I posted. And with almost 2000 movies at this point, not sure if I want to rename them all. LOL

I was mainly curious if I had to name the folder EXACTLY the same as the file name. Which, you answered with your example. It’s not required to be identical.

It’s probably some goofy thing on my system. Won’t be the first time. I have done both methods and neither one works. I put in the extra files just as it shows in the examples (also tried both methods) and they never show up anywhere. I’ll keep playing with it.

Thank you for your help!!! You did answer my question.

Make sure all your extras have the correct -appendage on their file names. Otherwise Plex won’t recognize one of them as an actual extra. It’d then see it as a regular movie, thus making then two of these in the folder. And when Plex sees more than one movie in a folder, it’ll ignore all extras therein. Because it doesn’t know to which of the movies the extras belong.
