Movie file changed, what happens to optimized version?

I have a quick question. If I have a tv show or movie in my library, say 1080p. An optimization task on the library is set to optimize a 720p version. So that it created.
A few days later, I download a new copy of the file, this one at a higher quality, and either the old copy is deleted, and the new copy has a slightly different name / extension, or the old file was deleted and the new file was renamed to have the same name. Both cases it was put in the same folder.
When plex next scans, it matches the files to the same movie / tv episode.

Now, what happens with optimization? If it is the same named file? If the file has a slightly different name? Does the old optimized file get deleted and anew one created based off the higher quality version? Does just a new optimized version get created and the old one is left there? Since the media item was already optimized once would it not get optimized again?

What if the optimization task is set on the newly added view, instead of the folder level, does that change anything ( because I don’t think the movie would show up in newly added if just a new version is found for an existing media item)?
