Whenever adding a movie, Plex usually takes all unneeded info out of the title like 1080p x265 etc. Now as of late when adding a movie it just uses the whole unedited name for example Looper.2012.1080p.BluR… instead of just plain Looper with the year underneath.
All my old stuff is still named correctly, it’s just new items and I’m unsure if I may have accidently screwed up a setting somewhere or if it’s due to a server upgrade ‘bug’.
First… you always get the best experience if you follow the naming schema proposed by Plex. Not saying it didn’t work before for you… but it’ll certainly give you a higher probability of correct matches.
Generally speaking I’m not aware of a general matching issue.
If this is mp4/m4v files… did you check them for embedded metadata that Plex might accidentally use because you set the library to prefer local/embedded data?
What agent have you set for this library? If you’re adding those files to a Other Video type library, Plex will not match it but use the file name as-is.
I’ve never followed a naming scheme as it’s never been a problem. Every movie has it’s title along with it’s resolution/encoder info in the name all separated with 'dot’s.
All the movies are added to a Movies folder that was set up as a movies folder. I put over 900 movies in there without a naming problem until just now.
While scanning new movies, it names them correctly as in movie name with year underneath but as soon as the poster shows up it renames them to the files name.
Other than that I have not set anything different nor do I know where to set it to prefer local/embedded data.
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie (Legacy)
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
Afterwards, Refresh Metadata of the affected items.
If your movie library already uses the new “Plex Movie” agent, do this instead: Edit your movie library
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab clear the check mark out of “Prefer local metadata”
Afterwards, Refresh Metadata of the affected items.
