Issue: If you access a movie that is a part of one of your collections, that movie will be removed from the collection.
From web browser, select a movie from your collection and open it to see cast, movie summary, etc… Then go back to the collection and you will see that the movie has been removed from the collection and the collections tag has been updated. You can also reproduce this issue with the ios Plex app on iPhone and iPad as well as the Plex app on Roku.
I was not able to reproduce this if the movie I tested with was part of more than 1 collection.
This line from Plex Media Server.log seems pertinent: Doing expensive tags write for ‘,movie title’ because something changed.
Are those automatically created collections?
It seems something is triggering Plex to update the metadata – however those movies don’t belong to a collection. This could have been some recent change on TheMovieDb.org – sometimes they clean up collections that are not in line with their definitions. Overview - Collection Bible — The Movie Database (TMDb)
My collections aren’t automatically created. I manually add them from a returned search, usually based on a specific actor.
As a matter of fact, I haven’t seen the ability to automatically add a movie to a collection in 2 or 3 months. That functionality disappeared with one of the previous updates it seems.
That isn’t true. Just now, I had a movie placed in two different Collections and then opened it on Roku and it disappeared from both collections. So disregard that sentence.
I had been running two Plex servers on Centos 7 and both servers had this issue of disappearing movies in any collection I created. Last week, one of the servers had the hard drive fill up with metadata. It had a smaller drive than the other server. So I replaced the drive with a much larger one and decided to install Debian on that new drive and Plex as well along with the Plex database I had backed up.
After 4 days of monitoring, it appears that the issue is no longer reproducible on the Debian OS server. On the Centos 7 server, I can still observe missing movies from the collection within 12 hours. I am going to contiue to monitor and if there are no issues on the new Debian server, I will install Debian on the remaining Centos 7 machine.
I am now running Debian 10 for both of my Plex servers and Collection functionality works great. It was broken for Centos 7. That’s an old distro anyway so I don’t expect this issue to be addressed.
