Movie stuck on buffering

I was playing a movie that just got stuck on buffering, endless (already after a few minutes playtime). It was played through Chromecast. MKV file that transcoded following:

HEVC4k → H264 1080p
DCA 7.1 → AAC 256 2ch
Original quality
Server Version#: 1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892
Player Version#: Chromecast

Took a server log from when it was stuck buffering: Plex Media Server Logs_2019-12-11_16-24-28.zip (4.7 MB)

I directly after tried to start it through the Samsung Smart Hub TV app to see if it did the same thing. Now the stream worked for the entirety of the movie. However, with Smart TV it Direct Play’ed both sound and video.

Some notable things have happened though:

  • The Task Manager in Windows Server have become unresponsive
  • PMS have lost feedback on CPU / RAM usage
  • The server is lagging quite a lot as I’m typing this, can’t see what process is causing it but my guess is PMS
  • The server is powerful enough to run multiple HD streams and has done so on other occasions.

Eventually I had to close down Remote Dekstop and finish this post on my other computer. The movie has played for 35min without any interrupts.

Any thoughts?

Hey! Does Chromecase work via any other display? Im wondering if its chromecast in general, or if it simply doesnt like the samsung.

For me, I couldnt get the bufferring to stop until I allowed insecure connections ALWAYS and manually entered in my IP address locally. Have you dont that yet?

Chromecast works perfectly for other movies with Plex and other apps like Youtube etc.

The movie per say also starts - it just after a while decides that now it wants to start buffering and stop working.

I have secure connections on Preferred. I would imagine it decides on its own whether it wants secure or not. But given that the stream starts it should not suddenly decide it wants to change this state?

Corrected, after reboot etc could see in Tautulli that video had done Direct Play when using the Samsung TV App.

Yet again I’m having to uninstall PMS and downgrade to a 1.9 version to make the server work.
