Movie with surround audio playing over stereo has volume issues in mix

Server Version#: 4.147.1
Player Version#: Cant find the version number

I got a new TV, the 65” S90D OLED from Samsung. I have installed the Plex app. All is working as expected, except for one important thing: I seem to be missing some audio channels.

My setup is as follows: TV running the Plex App –> eArc output –> Marantz NR1506. I have a 2.1 setup. So two large front speakers and a subwoofer.

When watching a movie, the sound mix feels off. Hard to describe, it’s like the surround channels and the center channel are mixed in with the front channels at a too low volume.

With my old tv my setup was: Nvidia Shield –> Marantz NR1506 –> TV. Where the Shield was running the Plex App. Sound was absolutely brilliant in that setup.

Somehow the audio coming from the Tizen OS Plex app is messed up. Looking for some help to solve this issue!

What I have tried:

  • Disabling Direct Play and Direct Stream
  • Different audio types like DTS, DD+, EAC3, AAC

You had one of the best possible setups there. You should have retained it and just replaced the TV.

Look in the settings of the Plex app on the TV if there is a selector for number of audio channels.
With a 2.1 speaker setup, you better not feed it anything other than stereo.
