Movies directory disappearing on plex media server on ubuntu

whats the file system type of the partition ?

hold off on doing any writes to that partition for the moment

Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) (With data protection for 1-drive fault tolerance

If it’s ext3/ext4 partition type you might be able to use one of these utilities

http://extundelete.sourceforge.net/

SORRY. It’s ext4

I don’t know how to access terminal on synology

All stop please.

There is no need to get into the Synology’s command line.

Which problem is attempting to be solved?

I’m willing to help here but if others want to drive the bus, I’m fine sitting out.

It does seem like there are multiple issue here which clouds the effort ?

I could really use your help. My movies have disappeared as well as some shows from my NAS. It happened when i accidentally mounted the drive prior to running the chmod command, then terminal started running a whole lot of things and I saw not permitted and stuff in the terminal and I exited the terminal before the command completed as I didn’t know what was happening. Then I noticed content seems to have been deleted on my nas.

That’s a rather strange comment. He was asking questions about shell commands and I answered. That is the convention in a user forum, no? In the future I should
 what?

when you are using the terminal session and things aren’t going as I’ve written or stated it would work, it’s always best to copy & paste what’s going on. I can then immediately see where the issue is.

Showing me the prompt before, the prompt with the command and then the failing output, inclusive of the next command line prompt is best.

Sorry, I’m new to all this. I’ve just lost my movies and some shows and configurations. Probably have to setup everything again

did you lose them -OR- are they simply not visible?

Where are they stored?

If they’re on the NAS, go into the NAS’s file manager and look. Ignore Linux for now.
Go look at truth

I looked on the Nas directly. They’re not there.

I’m not sure if data recovery is possible

No. It’s gone.

Did you attempt that undelete on the NAS or did you EXPRESSLY tell it to DELETE a share containing your content?

Synology might be able to help but no “publicly avaialble” tool will come close.

I haven’t tried anything. I have no idea what to do with undelete and I don’t know how to use terminal on synology. I don’t know what happened

I have testdisk installed and it’s running but can’t find it elsewhere to use it

This is way outside what I can do for you now.

Please continue with the SynoCommunity forum or with Synology directly.

When the mount point was /media/DiskStation it used to automount and appear on the sidebar, is there a way to do this with the new directory?

STOP , PLEASE STOP

I am going to be candid. I do not mean to insult in any way but I feel directness is needed here.

At this moment,

  • you’re in over your head,
  • don’t understand what has happened (IF ANYTHING) to your media.
  • You’re attempting to use Linux, which you’re clearly not skilled enough to use.
  • You’re grabbing at software, recommended by someone else who may or may not have your best interest at heart. This forum is full of “Experts” who don’t know what they’re talking about.

I am attempting to help you:

  1. Find your media on the Synology
  2. Get it mounted to Linux

To be PERFECTLY CLEAR:

Remove the synocommunity package from the NAS.

Remove anything else you’ve installed (I saw a github reference) with exception of nfs-common that I instructed.

Now, Please sign into the Synology diskstation gui via your browser.

Open FileStation and verify your media exists in the shares where it should be.

Yeah I’m a beginner, but I’m capable of learning. The nas is mounted and I’ve got media on it, however I have lost a good chunk, but I’ll just have to put it back rather than restore it. SO I’M NOW SIMPLY ASKING IF THERE IS A WAY TO HAVE THE MOUNTED DIRECTORY APPEAR ON THE SIDEBAR AS IT USED TO?
