I am trying to movie all my dvds onto plex to use with the rokus in my home. I have an external harddrive that winx is moving the finished movies to. I don’t know how to get plex to recognize them however. Please help. I am a computer novice at best.
I tried renaming the file to the format of title (year) but it still doesn’t show up in plex. The first file I uploaded finally did show up so I’m trying to reload the last file with the original name to see if that works.

If you are having trouble with the movies showing up. Please explain exactly what you’ve done. Here are a few things we would need to know.
- what type of library did you create
- exact filename you are using
- what is the folder structure to your movie folder
- what folder is the library pointing to
- is your library set to automatically find your files or did you manually scan for the new files
Providing the full set of PMS logs would also be helpful.
I use winx dvd to rip the movie to my external hard drive. I then pointed plex to that drive. That’s all I know how to do. I used the file name that shows up when I load the disc. I tried to change it to what plex suggests [title (year)]. I don’t know anything about a library. I have folders to my E:/Plex/Movies

This was step 2 of creating a library. Did you point it to the drive "E:" or to your folder “E:\Plex\Movies”? It should be to the folder.
In the first step, you had to choose the type of media you are adding. Did you pick “Movie”? That’s what you need if you want Plex to identify your files and find the posters and other info for you.
I never took the first step and don’t know where or how to do that. As for where I pointed to it was both; 1st was e:/plex/movies, then to only the E drive.
I’m confused. What did you do exactly to “point” to your folder? The only time you pick a folder is during the process of making a library.

That is the Plex for Windows client. The setting you are looking at is for the mobile sync feature, that is where it saves the files that are synced. This app is used for accessing the content after you’ve added it to your server.
