Movies will not play when subtitle is selected

Roku Version#: 7.4
When I select a subtitle the movie will not start playing. The icon spins round and round until getting some error. This is for subtitles inside the movie file (like MKV) or for selecting a different text subtitle from the dropdown options.

Also have an issue that is likely not related. Unable to stream movies to Roku with audio MP3 Stereo. The interface goes to 33% and never further.

What error is that?

The errors is: Playback Error: Playback has stopped due to an error. Please check your connection and try again.

Also: I just noticed the subtitles work on my home computer in the Chrome browser. But they do not work on Roku or ShieldTV (which is also running the Plex server).
