I want to move the server that’s setup on a raspberry pi 5 to a synology nas (DS923+). Can I claim to rpi5 server on the nas? Can I add a second server to the plex account? No options I’ve been able to find are viable for this setup.
You can have as many servers as you want on your account at one time. I have a 920+ Synology NAS that used to house my Plex, but I since offloaded it to a full-on Ubuntu server docker that I specifically built for its purpose. At one time while on vacation, the server failed to recover from a power outage. The NAS was fine, so I booted up my old Plex server on the NAS and resumed watching from there. It’s not a seamless replacement, but sufficient for the time.
I worry about your choice to use as a server though. While the 920+ has a Celeron processor, the 923+ uses an AMD Ryzen, which is not capable of Hardware transcoding. The 920+ Celeron is capable of hardware transcoding. I do not know whether a pi5 can do HW transcoding, so I don’t know if you are possibly going to lose out on capability with the move.
FAQ to help you:
You can have multiple servers on your account. Yes, there is a limit but 2-3 is fine.
(I have 6 active for testing purposes but most only last a day)
