I’ve moved the hard disk where I keep my media and cant seem to move Plex or change the settings in Plex. Every time I try adding new media it states “Your changes could not be saved”. Every time I try to change any settings it states “Server settings are unavailable.”. Ive reinstalled Plex a whole bunch of times now and every time I it automatically
re installs the Plex Media Server on the old hard drive where my media files are no longer kept.
Not sure what you are trying to accomplish.
There are 3 locations involved when setting up Plex:
the location of the Plex program files (leave it at the default location on drive C:, it’ll only use ~160 MB )
the location of the Plex data folder . This is where all your metadata and the Plex database are stored. It can be moved using this procedure Moving Metadata on Windows
I firstly moved my media files and it was still working fine, but wasn’t locating any new media files, so noticed the Plex data folder still on the old hard drive and tried moving that also. Now its not letting me add any media files in Plex.
If you do a completely new install, you don’t need to perform the full procedure to move the plex data folder.
Just point plex to the new location and restart the server.
However, make sure that this location is not crossing over into any folder that is being “watched” by a plex library.
Don’t even try to use a network share for it.
You must use a local drive (preferably ‘internal’), formatted with the NTFS file system.
