All of the files show up, but everything is marked unwatched.
Upon further review (loading up the old server and looking) - something happened and everything there is marked unwatched.
This means the only watched history, unfortunately, is in back up of the New NAS data (what was the “current” data before all of these attempts). So, essentially, I’m back to square one - when I add the new file paths, it recognizes the files as new content, causing duplicates with new unwatched status.
If I can’t find a way to match the content, I think I’ll just upgrade to DSM 7 and do a clean install. I don’t want to lose years of watched activity, though. It seems like there should be a way that Plex could identify the files as the same content and merge watched history.
Did you not put media at the same path? I thought this was a 1-1 move from an older NAS to a newer NAS and not a complete restructure.
I do have one question.
When you added the new locations, did you KEEP the old location in the list UNTIL everything was found in the new location? When done correctly, it will find the new files, mark them as duplicates because one, currently inaccessible path, exists in the database.
Then, After ALL files have been found is when you remove the original location
While I wrote this for general Linux, the same process works on Synology because Synology uses Linux,.
Since you now have the Library.tar file on the NAS and the little script to restore it,
you can do this as much as needed until you get it perfect to your liking. There are a lot of steps but nothing overly complex.
The steps outlined worked perfectly for a 1:1 clone. Thanks so much for your help!
Glad you got it!
