Moving Libraries to a new server - SOLVED

Server Version#: 1.16.2.1321

I am trying to move my server to a new Windows Machine. Both the old and the new are running Windows 10. I followed the instructions here:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/201370363-move-an-install-to-another-system/

This seemed to move the basic setup (server name, shared users, etc.), but for some reason did not move any of the library setups or watch history.

Does anyone know if there are other steps that need to be taken to move the library setting and the metadata? I did ensure that all Plex services where stopped on the source machine before making copy of the Plex Media Server directory and the registry keys.

If there is more information I can provide to help troubleshoot this, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Perhaps you forgot to quit Plex server from running, during the copy process.
This usually results in a corrupt database.
Stop both servers, old and new and copy over the primary database file once again.
Location is mentioned in here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201100678-repair-a-corrupt-database/

Another idea: if the Plex data folder is not in the default location on the new machine, you must be very careful with what you put into
Settings - Server - General - ‘Show Advanced’ - “The path where local application data is stored”
The path must not end with Plex Media Server
see Moving Metadata on Windows for more details.

Thank you very much… I did quit Plex server on both machines… I tried again this time deleting the Plex Media Server folder on the destination before copying and that seemed to fix it.

Thanks again!

Make sure to never start up the old server again. If you want to do that, you’ll have to do some additional measure, or the two servers will be indistinguishable for clients.
