Moving Plex Server to another Win10 system

I’ve tried the steps listed below several times and it’s not working https://support.plex.tv/articles/201370363-move-an-install-to-another-system/

I’m running Windows 10 on both systems, Plex v 1.21.0.3711
I need to move Plex to new hardware. I’ve copied over all media/folders to a new drive, giving it the same drive letter on the new system. Both installs are default C drive directory. I’ve stopped Plex, zip’d the Plex folder and restore it to the new system, as per the article above, and restored the registry key keeping the same IDs/info. So essentially everything on the new system should be exactly as it was on the old system.

However my Movies/TV libraries don’t show up on the new system, and if I re-add the library location it appears that I’m starting over and losing all my metadata that I’ve spent hours customizing over the years. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you unzipped to
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server, not %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server ?

You must close/end/quit the Plex server on both the source and the target system before you start the copy.
You must never start the server again on the source computer.

Most likely your copy of the primary SQLite database file is damaged, so you may want to copy it again or revert to one of the backup copies: https://support.plex.tv/articles/202485658-restore-a-database-backed-up-via-scheduled-tasks/

Ok interesting thanks I’ll try that. Do you know if I also need to sign out of the source/destination and if so am I signing out the server or the account because those seem to be two different things. The Move instructions point to a place ( 1. Sign out of your account under Settings > Server > General in Plex Web App) that seems to be an older location as on my server it’s Settings > General > Server signed in as (Sign Out) as well as in the upper right corner Account > Sign Out.

You don’t need to sign out. In fact you are moving the “sign in” info as well to the other machine, by copying the registry settings.

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies, I think I’ve found the problem, just waiting for files to zip/copy over… Fingers crossed

All good, I had the wrong set of source files thanks again
