Every time I’ve had to move my library in the past I’ve been able to rename my new storage device in the same naming convention, and it has worked.
Now, I’ve simply gotten to the limit of what my NAS can handle, so I bought a second NAS (one for my TV library, one for my Movie library now). So the new path to the Movie Library can no longer be identical.
I forced a refresh of the library MetaData and then I followed the direction at The Plex Support Site copied the entire library to the new NAS and now have two copies of it, added it as a folder for the Movie Library, and have done a scan.
It did find all the movies, but all the files are listed as duplicate entries (not paired with the original) and have their own artwork/metadata. Lots of files are unmatched or mismatched. (Screenshot to show the mess: https://i.imgur.com/IemavdQ.png)
I have not deleted the old files yet, because the newly added files are such a mess and I was hoping they’d just get added to the same media entry (with a 2 in the upper left of the cover) indicating two versions of the same file were available for each movie. That’s not what they loaded as though for any of the files.
Aside from going through and hand correcting every file, is there any way to simplify this and just relocate the library with the same metadata and curated posters etc I had before?
I backed up the PLEX application support files before starting any of this and can easily reset to the previous state if necessary.

The movie “The Vanishing of Sydney Hall”, new metadata pull shows up side by side to my original file: https://i.imgur.com/s39JLYv.png
Notice in that image they are NOT a merged file. None of the new pulls are linked/merged with their original movies.
The original file with correct metadata pulled and a valid poster, as it sits at location /Volumes/data/media/Movies/The Vanishing of Sydney Hall/The.Vanishing.of.Sidney.Hall.2017.1080p.WEB-DL.DD5.1.H.264.CRO-DIAMOND[N1C].mkv shows the GETINFO of: https://i.imgur.com/jVeDZbM.png
The new file with incorrect metadata (linking it to a 1967 film?) and no poster, as it sits at location /Volumes/data-1/media/Movies/The Vanishing of Sydney Hall/The.Vanishing.of.Sidney.Hall.2017.1080p.WEB-DL.DD5.1.H.264.CRO-DIAMOND[N1C].mkv shows the GETINFO of: https://i.imgur.com/41oT4rm.png
Look at that and see if there’s anything you missed. I suspect that your original files were matched with an older agent/scanner and the new ones are matching with the new default. Or not matching at all but that’s due to slightly more strict naming conventions
Jay, I think it may be an older agent/scan issue? Any idea how to fix it?
I’ve added a few new movies/files to the folders and they properly pair together when a scan is accomplished. Do you know how can I re-scan all my old files under a new agent… without losing personalized/selected posters, collections, tags, etc? Then hopefully they will force a merge with the files in the new location?
