Moving media (Movies, TV shows, pictures) to new network location

Hi there

Just wanted to confirm what I think I understood from this: Move Media Content to a New Location | Plex Support

So what I’m about to do is move all my media to a new NAS. Up until now the files were either at \netdisk1\someshare\movies…
\netdisk1\someshare\series…
\netdisk2\anothershare\movies…
\netdisk2\anothershare\series…

In the future, this will look something like this:
\nas\yetanothershare\movies…
\nas\yetanothershare\series…

So if I understood that article correctly and I follow it, I won’t have to touch any metadata at all because Plex will automatically figure out it’s the same item in the background and just change the media path by itself? Last time I moved my media (a couple of years ago, admittedly) it was an absolute nightmare, so it looks like this has been fixed? Yet another reason to be a PlexPass lifetime member, I guess

Fermin

COPY your files to the new location, ADD the new path to your library, scan files - at this point you should have two of every show you copied over. Delete the old path from the library. If all is well, delete the OLD movies from the old location. Also, your root folder should be “TV Shows” not Series: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

Thanks for confirming, this looks to be a lot less painful than it was the last time

The naming of the share of my TV Shows has historical reasons. I might rename it to something different, though probably not with a space anywhere in the path. The structure under that “series” folder is as it should be, though. One folder per TV show, with “Season 01” etc. subfolders where the actual episode files are stored.
