Unfortunately, I set up my Plex Media Server before I found the QNAP FAQs. I have noticed some weird things (e.g. Photo timelines with large gaps) and would like to fix. Rather than look for hidden folders and adding exclusions, it seems like starting fresh might be better for me. Can I create a new share, move the files, and then tell the PMS to look in the new location? I don’t think I have enough playlists, metadata, etc. to be concerned about starting over. Is this wise? If so, any tips for accomplishing this?
Yes. You can reorganize your media . There are some steps to make sure it doesn’t drop all the watched status.
Here is the procedure I wrote for Linux but works for QNAP just as well.
Thanks Chuck. This is working well. I did not get a 2 for duplicate items but I noticed that some but not all items were duplicated. In Music I reckon about 30% of my albums were duplicated; they showed up with trashcans over their posters. After cleaning up, I did lose a couple of album posters, but they were easy to reestablish. In the middle of photos now.
