Moving movies from one library to another

Right now I have all of my movies in one large library. I would like to separate them out (I’m going to put Kids movies in it’s own library). Is there a way to move all of the “Kids” movie to the new library without losing the viewing history for me and my other users?

If you are using the same ‘metadata agent’ for the new library, watched status should be retained.
(The agent of your libraries can be set at the ‘Advanced’ tab)

Exactly - and basically…

Copy material you want to move to another folder(s)
Create those new Libraries
Let Plex find everything and share existing metadata with the new duplicates
When all is said and done and the wheels stop spinning
Remote old duplicates (scan library files - empty trash - clean bundles)

After you have created the new libraries - if you find other stuff you want to move…
End Plex before copying as before - copy material - then restart Plex and scan the new library(s)
When the wheels stop spinning, remove old duplicates (scan, empty trash, clean bundles)
This may prevent confusing Plex or creating a condition wherein Plex starts looking for stuff before it actually arrives fully.
You can do this on the fly - I do - but I create an ‘On Deck’ folder on the new drive, copy stuff there first, then move it to the new library - so it goes there instantly and fully intact.

Either way - it’s not a big deal - but you may need to run an extra Analyze if things go bonkers or act strange afterwards.

After something like this is done a good old fashioned Optimize Database is always a good idea.
