I apologize if this has been brought up already, so I have a new Qnap TS-X53E Nas that’s replacing a windows laptop that I have used for some time now. I need some guidance on how to move my watchlists etc. from the windows device to my Qnap Nas. I installed FileZilla on my windows device and was able to ftp into my Qnap I copied the whole Plex folder (50gbs) from windows and copied onto the Qnap after the copy was completed I rebooted the Nas opened Plex and it looks like a vanilla install as I didn’t see any changes is this the correct route to have this moved over?
A few Q’s:
- Did you install a vanilla install before you copied files over?
- Please be a bit more specific about what you copied over as well as tell us source and target dirs
- When doing this, was PMS running or not on both devices?
Hello I added my media folders etc to the Qnap then I copied over the plex media server folder and overwrote the Qnap. I have just deleted the Qnap plex install and want to start over. I had PS shut down on both devices maybe my issues was I added my folders etc first and did not leave PMS vanilla.
Here’s the steps:
-
On Windows, make sure the setting
Empty trash automatically after every scanis NOT selected
-
Shut down Windows PMS
-
Create a share on QNAP named
PlexDataand set the path to automatically -
Install PMS on QNAP
-
Claim PMS on QNAP
-
In QNAP AppCenter, shut down PMS
-
Copy over everything from your windows
Plex Media Serverdirectory to the QNAP share, and override everything… -
Then you must edit every library, and add the folder path to where your movies, shows etc are located…NOTE:
- Do NOT use QNAP’s Multimedia share for that!
- Do NOT remove the Windows Path
-
Rescan every library
-
Edit each library, and remove the Windows Path
-
Do an Empty Trash
-
Share new PMS to friends
Thx sir I will give that a go and update you…
