Moving PMS to new computer

How do I save all my own metadata etc settings when porting my PMS to a brand new PC?

I will be upgrading to a new PC soon, and I really dont want to have to re-scan, re-match and re-check thousands of files for adding all the personal genre tags that I have added to them over the years.

Do I just install a new PMS on the new PC, then overwrite it with the old PMS program and appdata files?
