I’m thinking about changing my Plex server from Windows 10 to Ubuntu Server. I currently use two 6tb NAS drives set up in a Raid 0 configuration for my media storage. The Windows 10 operating system is installed on a separate 250gb ss hard drive. I have another identical solid state drive that I’m not using so I’m thinking of just removing the Windows 10 drive and doing a fresh install of Ubuntu Server on the 2nd ss drive. That way I can replace the Windows 10 drive if something goes wrong. My question is, will the new Ubuntu Server install recognize the 2 storage drives in their Raid 0 configuration? The Raid 0 configuration was initially set up from the Windows 10 OS.
Is it setup as a Windows Storage Space? If so, I do not think you will be able to. But then again… why use RAID 0 on storage? There is no need as I can see it and the risks involved… Everything could be lost in an instance. Since you surely have backup (!) I would just remove and rebuild with the tools that Linux has such as mdadm/lvm and import the data back in from the backup.
If the RAID is done entirely in hardware with just a control layer in Windows (and is there a Linus app?) then it might work. If there is any software component in Windows then almost certainly no chance.
I moved to btrfs on Linux. Not compatible but much better and easier to manage (use the “single” profile for data and “raid5” for metadata)
