I’ll soon be building a new machine, to be my plex server. I have read the help document, but I’m wondering if anyone has experience in this and could answer some questions.
Media Drive Format
Right now my media is on a Drobo, formated HFS+. Is there any easy way to convert the drive to NTFS? I found this software by Paragon, but I don’t know if there’s a better way. I actually have a 2nd Drobo as a clone back up of the first, so maybe I can reformat that as exfat, then copy main media, then reformat main drobo and copy files back. If there’s no easy solution.
Cover Art
It seems like Metadata will transfer, but not the cover art. Has that been anyone’s experience? I have several titles where I’ve either edited the art or had to create it.
I’m not concerned with play counts, and I only share with 1 person.
If anyone has any experience in moving Plex from Mac to Windows, and has any insight, I’d be glad to hear it.
I am actually trying to move in the opposite direction, from MAC to Windows. Were you able to migrate to Windows?
Was there any particular reason you went away from Mac?
Yes, I migrated with very few problems that were due to my own stupidity. I did have some duplicate entries, so I manually went back and double checked the movies.
Several reasons for switching. And to be clear, I still use Macs. My desktop 2010 iMac still worked, but has aged. In fact it’s still in use at my office, replacing an aging 2010 Macbook Pro. I wanted something with USB 3 for my DAS Drobo, built in Blu-ray for ripping. And a more modern CPU for H265 transcoding. And I wanted a GPU for some light gaming. I was able to build all of that for $800. I can’t even get all of that in Apple hardware for 2X the price.
Also, I never found instructions on how to use a post-processing script for extra transcoding on Mac with Handbrake. On the PC, there’s MCEBuddy, which I can use custom comskips per show, as well as archive the cut shows, so I can fix them if the comskip didn’t do well.
Ahh got it. I wanted to go the opposite direction because I have an older Mac Mini (Core i5) which is more powerful than my existing Windows MSI Cubi (running Pentium).
But wherever I looked on the Interwebs, the general recommendation was to start from scratch because it would take a lot more effort to change OS
