Much faster (hopefully), smaller (mostly) and better PMS builds preview (1.15.0.573-123756e9a)

Did you have news ?

Hoping we get a build to play with soon
=D The build this was cut from dates (based on the original post) from the end of Aug. / beginning of Sep. time frame, I believe.

I think we should be getting another “normal channel” beta build soon too.

Can I assume that if I am running Version 1.13.9.5439, it is an instance of build related to this thread? If so, I hope that you are aware of the current issue with recorded programs and the incorrect XML data being created at (I believe) the series level that results in bad data being sent to Roku and other players. As a result, it is impossible to view series info and posters. We can still view episode posters and info using the “Episode” view, although as you can imagine, quite inconvenient. Several forum topics are lighting up about this issue. I recognize the challenges the Plex Team has to address user issues, but as a user and fan, would appreciate someone responding with a definitive “we hear you and it will be fixed in the next release.”

Unless you have downloaded and use the binary package from the Links in this thread, none of this relates to plex.tv/downloads This is a “forum beta release”. After it leaves this stage
THEN it will be production on plex.tv/downloads.

Thanks for clarifying. So, If set my Plex system to download the BETA, it is the release after the one(s) described in this thread (which I would refer to as Alpha). So Chuck, have you heard any news on this issue and whether we can expect any resolution in the next few weeks?.

Downloading this beta thread’s contents is a manual operation. Nothing can be set.

Checking in with the team, QA found a couple issues with NAS boxes which are being worked on now.
:crossed_fingers: that’s the last of it

Thanks! Hopefully good news awaits.

Greetings to the Plex team for all their hard work! Excuse my ignorance but If i understand correctly my DS 118 will never support hardware h265 transcoding because the ARMv8 cpu does not support it. But then how come the product’s specifications state that hw h265 transcoding is supported?

https://www.synology.com/en-global/products/DS118#specs

Hardware Transcoding Engine: 10-bit H.265 (HEVC), MPEG-4 Part 2, MPEG-2, VC-1; maximum resolution: 4K (4096 x 2160); maximum frame rate per second (FPS): 60

@megadime

The NAS does support H.265 (HEVC) but in software only.

Plex does not have access to the proprietary hardware in the NAS. We have asked many time but Synology has refused to share this information.

So what will that mean for the future of Plex integration into the DS118? What will it support? No 4K-Transcoding, only 1080p-Transcoding?

@ChuckPA do you have some news

Yes, quite a bit but probably not everything you want to hear even though it’s good news.

  1. We managed to make them even smaller and faster
 The size issues are gone.
  2. We also managed to ‘bump’ (update) the core versions of support libraries. (fixes a bunch of bugs)
  3. Right now, PMS updates are being folded in so it’s completely up to date and will be ready for :crossed_fingers: to be the next PMS release (presuming the engineering testing is completed in time for QA testing and release.

I wish I could tell you the list of what’s updated but it’s nice
some of it is outright “sweet”.

Just making sure I read that correctly: You’re hopeful this build is now ready for prime time and will take over for the next regular PMS release if QA goes well? If so, that’s awesome.

You are correct.

As I understand it, (which is often a big IF, haha), if everything is flawless this time through, it will be ready for prime time.

I know it’s early to say this, and I’m not trying to jinx this, but congratulations! I know this is a huge milestone. I haven’t tested this beta, but have been tracking it, and look forward to upgrading to it when it releases.

There is a German expression which applies here “Gott sei Dank” that it will be complete. It was a huge undertaking to build the toolset needed for PMS on all its supported platforms. Now, adding new platforms or derivatives will be almost cookie-cutter

I have manually installed the ARMv8 (x18 Series) for Synology on my Synology DS218, but when I try to launch it, it says “Launch of package assistance failed.”. I have also tried to reboot the Nas but nothing change.
P.S. First of all I try installing the versione that I have found here “ARMv8 platform alpha testing - Synology and QNAP”, but it doesn’t work (the problem that I have exposed early). Then I read all the post and discover this post, and I have update the package with the version of this post, but it happens the same issue.

Please screen shot what it says because ““Launch of package assistance failed.” is not a known message

Update: screen shot now in English

I am using Synology DS218 with DSM 6.2.1-23824 Update 1.
