Multi-channel audio failing to downmix correctly to analogue stereo

Hi, first post (but I've been using Plex for quite a while now).

I have just started trying Plex through my PS3 and am having audio problems.

My setup is from Plex Media Server (0.9.11.16.958-80f1748) on my PC (Win 7x64, 8GB, Q6600)  --> original 2007 "fat" PS3  -->  LG television via HDMI / audio also separately via analogue stereo RCAs to external amplified stereo speakers.

o  Using HDMI from the PS3 directly to the TV's inbuilt (stereo) speakers all audio plays correctly;

o  Changing the PS3 audio output to the analogue ports, then only mono and stereo streams play as expected.  AAC and DD multi-channel streams do not (I haven't tested anything else at this stage).

What happens is that most of the sound gets driven to the right channel (voice, music, effects) and very little from the left channel (no voice, some music/effects - maybe it's the surround info only?).

As a test, I enabled Plex's DLNA server and this problem did not occur.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Well yeah, not first post; but who's counting.

Hi mozreactor, welcome! :)

When you output sound over the analogue ports are you also disabling Dolby Digital in the Settings > Audio > Receiver Capabilities? Plex can't detect the audio output setup of the PS3, so, we would still be sending multichannel audio to the PS3 which then downmixes it to something crazy.

If you do disable the Dolby Digital receiver capability Plex downmix to AAC stereo on the server. Any bad downmixing at this point is definitely something Plex can investigate.
