Multi disc in one ablum shows as multiple albums

It makes me sad that music functionality seems to get the short end of the stick in Plex. There are two major issues in music presentation that seem to be often asked for but never provided:

  • The one presented in this thread - which drives me crazy when I'm trying to play a multi-disc album straight through
  • The way the server provides the "Album Artist" (TPE2) rather than the "Artist" (TPE1) to players when playing compilations (at least on iOS and Roku—Plex/Web displays the Artist.)

I have a lot of music and find the combination of Plex and Roku the most convenient way to play my digital collection on my home theater system.

Has there ever been any resolution to this multi disc issue?

I've spent ages tagging all my flac files with Picard, and Plex shows multi disc albums as one album per disc.

Would be nice to get a resolution to this :-)

Hello!

Same Problem here!

Likewise!

Searched for this issue on Google and was not disappointed. Please fix this developers! I hate it.

This would be a very useful feature and likely not too hard to implement. I have many multi-disc albums in Plex that are annoyingly displayed as multiple albums. For example, the 20 CD Miles Davis Live at Montreux shows up as 20 separate albums in my Plex app.... this really needs to be fixed for those users who use Plex to stream their music.

I, too, would like to see this feature implemented. When you have many 3 to 5+ disc albums in your collection, (Example here), it looks ridiculous. I'd love to see this fixed, as I need it for every media player I have.

It's not really a feature that's required here, just support for the 'Disc' ID3 tag to be recognised would suffice and a decent way to display the change, the way iTunes does would be my recommendation.

Another request for this to be added!

Here's another +1 — badly wanted!! :-)

+1, I would like to see Multi-Disc albums filed under one album entry!

First forum post

I've being googling like mad to try find a fix, but it looks as though there isn't one.

This is the only thing what annoys me with plex, I wish the dev's would fix this then for me it would be 100% perfect :)

As a newbie to Plex, this has so far been my biggest disappointment. I hope that a fix is in the works.

I agree on this one.  Hope PLEX sorts this.

My Future Sound of London Lifeforms CD has 2 discs.  They show as 2 Albums.

I have IDed them as 1/2 and 2/2 but makes no difference.

It should show as 1 album, Disc 1, Tracks 1,2,3,4,5 Disc 2, Tracks 1,2,3,4,5

I know of a workaround is to use tracks 101,102,103,104,105,201,202,203,204,205 but I'd rather not do that.  I have a lot of music.

Media Player tend to show 1,1,2,2,3,3,4,4 and so on.  So it would merge all the CD's together

Abit of a nightmare when you have chillout CD's where 1 CD's gets you going, and then 2nd calms you down........abit of a mess!!!  Up down up down.

i agree, this would be an awesome feature to include in PLEX. it annoys me to no end when i have to see Iced Earth's Alive In Athens listed as 3 albums, since it has 3 discs :) and so many more albums like that in my collection. Everyone else has stressed that they're one album, so i don't need to repeat that. :)

I agree, it is frustrating to see albums with multiple cd's listed as individual albums

I remember windows media player used to do this as well

If I select an album to play I want to play the full album across all discs, I should not need to select the 2nd or 3rd disc or create a playlist just to play an album

This is easily my biggest grievance with this otherwise amazing piece of software. I'm not renaming my tracks as I would expect this will be fixed in the future.

edit: oops, I just realised I said practically the same thing a couple of weeks ago, I must be getting old

I'm a fairly new Plex user and just ran into this problem as well. Actually, getting multi-disc albums to show up as multiple albums would be an improvement. For whatever reason, the album I'm fighting with (Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds (2009)) will only show up as a single album with the tracks ordered (disk 1 - track 1, disk 2 - track 1, disk 1 - track 2, disk 2 - track 2, ...). It doesn't seem to matter what is in the ID3 tags as far as track number. Actually, the ID3 tags seem to be ignored altogether. I've tried the different agents and nothing has made a difference.

Any work-around would be welcome.

Kudos to the Plex crew for all the hard work they have invested. Plex mostly does what I need it to do. Having said that, this issue has me looking at alternatives that work with the Roku, at least for listening to audiobooks. I really have no choice.

+1 the music side of plex could really use some work with organising metadata

+1 - the only issue that sticks out in otherwise outstanding software.
