Is it me or are plex developers ignoring this issue and focusing on the video side more? This problem has been reported by MANY users for months but nothing has been done. For me this is the only problem I have with plex, other than this the application is perfect.
+1 - Me too; this is the most glaring annoyance in otherwise awesome software for managing my music library.
Yeah, the music support is much below the video. Does anybody knows other software which can handle music better and run from NAS?
I agree with RuralIT 'War of the Worlds' is a nightmare to play as a whole album.
Please Please fix this.
Another +1 here. As someone who almost exclusively listens album-by-album, this is super annoying.
+1 - still agree and yet to see this feature.

I'm 100% sure that Plex team is busy with other, totally unrelated issue for which nobody is waiting for. I've cancelled my Plex pass recently because all what they did last year does absolutely nothing for me, and the only feature which I thought would do (syncing to my Samsung galaxy phone) did not work when I was abroad.
Hello,
I only registered to say that I also would want this to be fixed (yes, it's not a feature, it's wrong).
This topic has been opened over one and a half year ago. I would love to use PLEX, as it looks good and is simple in handling.
If one dev comes across this post and does not want to read all:
The problem is, that Plex recognizes albums with 2 or more CDs as seperate albums per disc, not as one album with multiple CDs.
My files are correctly tagged and for example foobar can do it right.
Foobar (with Tag Info window):
Plex:
Kind regards
Same here …
please solve this annoying multi disk problem!
Some acknowledgement from the developers would be nice here.
Clearly Plex wants to focus on video, it can't be taken seriously as an audio platform in its current state.
I suppose I'll add my voice to the fray, since nothing has been done as of yet. This is a pretty major oversight. Splitting multiple discs is very irritating. I have multiple albums that are 5+ discs, for instance I have a Beethoven symphony collection by LSO that is 6 discs. Plex is the only library management software I have ever used to do this, and I was greatly disappointed to find out that it does.
I also agree with shades79, having someone working on the project simply acknowledge the issue would go a long way. Scrolling through the topic I've seen quite a few Plex Pass (read: paying customers) complaining about this issue.
So frustrating! I bought a lifetime plex pass - I wonder if I'll still be alive when this one rolls out ;)
I agree, proper support for multi-discs albums is missing.
I add my vote for this feature.
I was so excited, I thought I finally found the perfect most amazing media manager, was just about to buy into the Plex Pass but decided to I uploaded more media and BAM! Complete disaster... I can't even understand the logic of breaking up the multidiscs into seperate albums...like what? why? all I know is that it's it's ruined it for me, the library looks messy and it's super confusing. OP posted in May 2013, many users have requested the issue be fixed and still NOTHING? How disappointing.
I just resolved this for a box set album, and there was a small twist.
I noticed today Plex had separated the tracks by disc, even though I had the track numbers sorted already (one single ascending list.) Being familiar with how ID3 tags worked, I immediately figured the disc tags were in the files and sure enough, they were (I use MediaMonkey to do all my ripping/tagging). So, I just blanked out the Disc# tag on all the tracks. I refreshed the Plex library expecting to see it fixed, but it wasn't!
Here's what did work:
Once I went through the above and double checked after that the tracks didn't have any Disc# tag I decided I should get Plex to import this album from scratch again:
- I moved the album folder out of my library to a temp location
- Refresh Plex library, confirm album is gone
- Run: empty trash, clean bundles, and optimize (all three of these options are in the settings dropdown in the left pane on the home screen.) This is to ensure any/all leftover metadata/files are removed.
- Move album folder back to its original location
- Refresh Plex library
- Voila, entire set shows as a single album now, like it should!
Plex could probably improve its library refreshing process in this case, where you fix the tags after the tracks had previously been imported.
But aside from that, it's up to the users to tag their stuff. I think MediaMonkey is the best for this, and it's free. It will organize your folders and filenames too. You have to clean up stuff like having multiple artists like "The Cars" and "Cars", etc etc.

It's all about your ID3 tags. As I just mentioned in my last post, I recommend MediaMonkey to get your music library in order. It has a lot of auto-detection/tagging features to make it all a much less daunting task than you think.
If all your tags are organized and consistent, it will all look beautiful in Plex.
I occasionally add something that will have some random bit of art missing or something (like the poster art. I already have album art embedded in all my tracks)... but Plex has options built right in to help you fix things like that easily if it ever happens.

While that solution may work for you, I'm not interested in tagging multi-disc albums as one larger album. The disc # tag is there for a reason. All other respectable media players recognise it properly, I'm not changing my whole library to suit one flawed program.
I had no idea anyone cared to leave the tag in. I never thought of having the disc# tag as being useful for any reason. I'm not suggesting you stop caring or anything. 90%+ of my library is my own CD rips, and I've never bothered to include that tag. It seems arbitrary to me since it is simply born of the technical/physical limitations of records/cds. In my case with this box set, I got the files elsewhere and so this issue came up for me. Yes, I've had to rename track numbers and such to do it this way, but I guess I just assumed long ago that's what would be necessary for players to display these sets the way I wanted.

*bump*
This needs to get fixed asap!
