Multi-Episode Handling

TV shows where the file contains multiple episodes are handled poorly. Enabling plex to assign multiple episode tags to the same file, and list it only once would be nice.

Currently, episodes marked S01E03-E04-E05 show up as episode 3, episode 4, and episode 5, and if you watch any of those “episodes”, you see all 3.

Having plex mark it simply as Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5 in the UI would make it much cleaner, and more efficient.

The current “best practice” recommended by Plex (splitting the file) is reasonable for a show that has one or two double episodes in a season, but for lots of animation shows, the default is two or three episodes per airing… it is far too time consuming to split dozens or hundreds of files.

There’s already an existing feature suggestion discussing such an option. I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes. Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.

side note:

That’s only partially true… the correct naming for that particular multi-episode file example is S01E03-E05

I tried searching, looks like I was searching in the wrong box. My bad.

It depends on who you talk to what the “correct” naming convention is on that… “Scene” naming convention is the one I mentioned… The problem with the naming convention you mentioned is that it is not fully supported in other apps, and can (theoretically) be unclear… although why anyone would stick episode 3 to episode 5 without 4 is beyond me, but I can point you to “Rugrats”, which changed their episode order from the aired version to the DVD and so came up with exactly that type of problem.

In any event, I will cast my vote on the other thread, as suggested. Thanks!

It’s the only naming schema for multi-episode files that Plex knows.
