Server Version#: 1.24.5.5173
Player Version#:windows10 and roku
have two versions of an episode. one is higher bitrate/size. ‘play version’ shows size difference. get info does not show size but higher bitrate is listed second.
issue: higher bitrate listed 2nd in play version will not let you change subtitle but procedure works but the version ‘in use’ does not change. changing the playing the first version in ‘play version’ allows normal change of subtitle version and selected subtitle is used in playback. I
initial issue was on roku plex, checked for same issue on windows 10 web player and had same issue (server issue?).
Do you have the same subtitles for both movies? Keep in mind that subtitles must be named the same as the video file. So those subtitles will only be available to that version. You will need to copy the subtitle file and name it the same as the other version to use it with that video.
when I need a title i find it it, preview it in a text editor (no modification), then use the desktop browser interface to drag/drop (the selected version is then playing). The issue is that the just dropped file isn’t used for the source. (stuck on french instead of english. It was a bit difficult to determine which video was in use since ‘get info’ doesn’t show file size, and shows both streams, while play version only shows file size and resolution. Does it seem intuitive that the downloaded version on the roku (tried 6 subtitles using the roku plex search subtitle interface ) using the (stacked dots down arrow icon) didn’t activate the selected subtitle file? I’m probably not explaining very well but should be able to reproduce with same copy of a program renamed and put in the same directory. I figured it out by trial and error and just played the smaller file and subtitles worked perfectly.
