Multiple Resolutions - Again - and Differing Artwork

Hi all.

I’m keeping 4k and 1080 versions in the same folder, filenames only differing by the codec/resolution info in the filename itself. This should be enough for Plex to keep them separate but alas, no.

I will separate them, Plex scans and then on a whim starts combining them. Aggravating.

I somewhat solved the issue by having separate artwork for the 4k vs 1080 versions, but it regresses.

Can’t Plex be smart enough to see two movies in the same folder with different filenames and artwork and keep them as separate entities? I can’t count on a pop-up client side as to choosing a desired resolution.

I don’t want a separate library either - I moved away from that as it was over managed.

Aargh.

Kev.

I think it that way simply because a majority of people prefer them combined together and its very easy to just “split apart” if unwanted. The differing file names is basically meaningless because it goes by the metadata from the agents.

I have thousands of titles in my library and wouldnt want that doubled with duplicates, you can always just select “play version” as well so the proper file plays. BUT yes it would be nice if plex could just pick the correct file to play.

2024 clean-up: this can be achieved using Editions (implemented)
