Multiple servers on same network

I’ve seen many people ask about multiple servers on the same network and say they can’t do it, it all depends on your router it needs to allow you to set a different wan port to the lan port for plex this been 32400.

Most standard routers you get from ISP does not allow this.

I currently have 3 plex servers on my network all externally accessible here’s my setup.
I have a server rack running clearos (clear os os is free and you don’t need a server rack just a machine with 2 ethernet ports.

Aswell as clear os you can also use pfsence or opnsence but I haven’t used these.

I have all 3 machines connected to the clearos system via a switch, in clear os I have the following port set-up for plex servers.

Server 1 from port 32400 to port 32400
Server 2 from port 42400 to port 32400
Server 3 from port 52400 to port 32400

The from port is the port the external port and to port is the internal port.

If people are still having issues with this I’m more than happy to help and even help with setup of such as clear os.

And the reason I have 3 servers on my network is server 1 & 2 are mine one for TV shows and one for movies, both signed into same plex account.
Server 3 is for a friend signed into his own plex account but as I have my own server rack and he doesn’t have a clue I was asked to host it.

And sorry its abit of a lengthy post but I’ve seen countless people post saying it can’t be done.

Why did you space your ports out so far??? Why not use something like this:

Server 1 from port 32410 to port 32400
Server 2 from port 32420 to port 32400
Server 3 from port 32430 to port 32400

I know you can pick any higher range port you like but I would think keeping them in the same range or with the same prefix, if you will, would be a lot easier to remember what the ports are being used for, IMHO…

I can also honestly say, in my years of dealing with high speed internet, I have never come across a gateway/router that wasn’t able to do basic port forwarding…

I’ve seen alot where you can only open the said port 32400 but not point to a seperate external port, and the reason they are spaces is because I have other people open not just plex so I spaced them out to keep them on a simular number

Other ports open not people

No problem, was just curious why you picked the scheme you did… I also have multiple servers running using the ports I listed and it works fine… Different strokes…

BTW, you can edit your people post and change it to ports by clicking on the pencil icon at the bottom your you post…

Thank you, new to the forums so still got to figure out where stuff is
Another thing people need to think about is some low end such as isp routers limit the ammount of ports you can open and some isp’s even block ports on their systems

You’re welcome… No problem at all, I’m sure…

I guess I have been lucky then… I have never had to deal with my ISP blocking any ports however I have heard tell of some ISP’s blocking certain lower service ports but certainly nothing over 1024…

I do remember the old Linksys WRT54G (<=v.4) only being able to port forward a max of 5 ports way back in the day…

I did come across one last year that was limited to 10 fortunately I don’t have the issue as I use a rack server as router.

I’ve been running multiple servers on the same network for years, just let Plex auto assign the port instead of manually specifying one - works like a charm.

I tried that but plex wouldn’t have any of it and kept taking original server offline
