Multiple subtitle display support

I recall seeing some requests for this on the forum long ago in the early days of PMS9, but I don't see it in the feature request forum here, so here goes:

I'd like to see support for displaying two sets of subtitles in different languages at once.  This would be useful for multi-language households, so people can read subtitles in their native language when watching films in a language neither of them understands.

I wouldn't't think this would be too hard to implement, since there's already support for adjusting the offset of fixed-location subs (ASS, etc).

I’m a young european and I don’t speak natively English. I believe that looking movies with dual subtitles is something amazing.

Is it so hard to add this feature for the next updates?

I hope to find it soon

[mod-edit: merged this with an existing suggestion in order to avoid distracting votes – though both threads had none; 2021 clean-up → duplicate]

Might be, because this would add extra clicks for anyone watching with one cc language, having to deselect the old language instead of just switching to the new one.
Now that doesn’t help your issue, I know, so here is a workaround:
There’s a software called Subtitle Edit.
Once opened, you can go to Tools>Join Subtitles. Then select the two languages you want. After that, Tools>Sort By>Start Time. And now File>Save As>Type: .srt, Filename: [video_name].[two letter language code].srt
after you saved that file to your library, go to Plex, scan library files and select the subtitle in the video.
I do hope this helps your problem,

Hello,
thank you for the answer, but I had already installed this program. I hope the developers consider whether adding this feature would give a different image to the product in my humble opinion.

don’t forget to vote if you want this. votes are not the only factor but if there’s zero interest/attention, it’s unlikely to get attention from Plex.

doesn’t work: unknow subtitle type. This error come only in the joining menu. If I add the subtitles normally in the program works well.

This will be great!
Every time that I want to see a movie with double subtitles, I need to merge both .srt files in the platform: subtitletools.com and I can have one colour per language, yellow and white.
But unfortunately, Plex sometimes changes the colour of the 2nd subtitle.

Trying to learn a language by watching shows/movies using subtitles (and audio) in said language is a really good way to immerse yourself, and Plex letting you use whatever subtitle file you want is really useful for that purpose. That being said, sometimes it’s really convenient to also have the subtitles in your own language so you can double check you understood what’s being said easily (sure you can always just pause and google it but it breaks the immersion more)
Some players (such as SMPlayer) have the option to enable dual subtitles, and I think it’d be a really convenient feature to add to Plex.

Agree! It’s the only reason I need a HTPC plugged into my TV!
