While I'm a bit frustrated by this I don't believe that's the case at all. I think it's a matter of it having not been fully thought out for various use cases. Also it's important we remember this is the initial release and only out for Plex Pass members. By the time it releases to the general public as a paid app I'm confident this will have been resolved.
Patience everyone. This is all very new to PLEX devs and MS. They are learning the platform is important and knowing how people will use it. Give them a chance to fix things. While I will go on record saying that switching Xbox profiles should not be an issue and the owner should not have to be present to use the app. Thanks for your hard work and hope to see frequent updates and support for this app.
For everyone having the problem, why not create another account called “Plex” on the Xbox One and assign the PlexPass to it, without having it identify with a face (worse comes to worse shield your face as it is created). Wont be automatic, but so long as you say “Xbox Sign In” and “Person X” or whatever the prompt is for Plex account, your Xbox should launch Plex properly. Yeah, its a pain, but its a quick fix for now. Same as when my girlfriend is watching tv, she leaves and it doesn’t pick up my identity properly when I start a video game
I'm still having a hard time figuring this out. My hubby has An xbox live acct with a gold membership (Is gold required or just having a basic free account ??) and he has a free plex acct where I have shared our servers to. I have a free xbox live account and I have a full plex premium subscription I bought specifically for this. We have yet to be able to get it to work on the xbox at all. When he linked it to his plex account it says you need to have premium (fair). We have tried making his xbox acct the main acct and linking my premium acct, it prompted for pin and then said a server couldn't be found on the network of a high enough version (although I just updated it to the newest). He then uninstalled the app on xbox one and tried making my xbox free acct the primary and reinstalling it using my prem plex acct, got a new pin and added it, still says server version is wrong / server not found. But other devices inside the network can see it fine.
We are having issues being able to see Plex properly outside the network, which Im working on. Is that a requirement ?? Is it going outside the network and back in ???
Do the xbox live user names need to match, or the email addresses, or how does it determine??
Thank you to anyone, this has been very confusing!!

Hi, zaleen. The issues you're running into are likely due to the incorrect server version. It's not enough to 'update' your server or check for software updates. You must manually update to the latest version for Plex Pass. Note on the downloads page, there is a toggle button to switch from regular downloads to the Plex Pass downloads. You must be logged into the website. Insure you download the Plex Pass version of the server and manually install it over your existing version. That will solve the majority of your problem.
Gold membership is not required for anything.
After you've upgraded your server insure you login to the Plex app with the Plex account that has Plex Pass, not any secondary or shared account.
Went back to my Roku and I am cancelling the plex pass. Xbox One sounded great, but now I have to pay for a plex pass to use it and have account login issues to watch my own content. Doesnt detect my server on top of it. Never had these issues before. I should have known better when MS gets involved with something simple. Plex is still amazing none the less.
I'm pretty sure you are jumping the gun, but whatever... And pretty sure blaming MS isn't warranted either.

I share this opinion. I'm pretty sure it was an oversight. It doesn't make sense that anyone in my house can use Plex on my Roku, but only I can use it on my xbox. Surely Plex must see this as an oversight.
I am also having this problem and it is very frustrating. We have three Xbox Live Gold accounts and any of us should be able to run Plax without having to set things up every time. Plex should be linked to the Xbox, not to the user.
Seems like the solution is to link validation to the server having the Plex Pass subscription-- with any number of Xbox Live accounts being able to access that server whether those accounts have Plex Pass subscriptions or not.

That’s how it works for all other plex clients, right?

The app has been out 1 day. A bit of a harsh reaction for a V1.0 app.
This is a pretty awful oversight. It’s almost as if the devs never even used the app in the scenario for which it was intended… That said, people were desperate for it and I appreciate that they wanted to get it out the door as quickly as possible. I hope it gets fixed very soon!

I'm very happy With the Xbox one plex client like many thousands other people, bloggers etc. You did not even give a chance
I do love it, but can't really use it until this is fixed. Can't believe, given the way the Xbox One works, that this was missed in testing? Very strange.

You do realize you only need one gold account now for the Xbox one?
There is also an issue with the parental control aspect of the Plex app on the Xbone. When the Plex app is running on an Xbone account that has any age restriction and has the option to hide content in the store, apps... then all of the movies/videos in Plex have a padlock and are not selectable. Unchecking the option will take all of the padlocks off and any video is selectable.
The work around for this would be the multi-user option and sharing only certain libraries when a free Plex account can be used to log into the app.
It would be kinda nice for the parental controls to play nice like Amazon Prime, Hulu and Crackle does. (It would be nice if the Netflix devs fixed their app to work parental controls.)
