I love to finally be able to have the full Plex experience on the Xbox One
Big thanks to the team!
Now to my problem:
Me and my wife have each an Account configured on the Xbox One with only me having Live Gold and a PlexPass. The Xbox is configured to log into each ones account whenever Kinect detects that one of us is using it.
I switched to my wifes profile to show her how to use Plex while we are not watching together and it prompted me to setup the pin again, so I did. When I switched back to my profile and started Plex first it didn’t find the server. After I manually quitted the app and restarted it, the pin screen came back.
This happens everytime whenever I switch the profile on the Xbox. Is only one user allowed to use Plex on the Xbox? If this is true you should rethink this and think about supported a family usecase where only one user has a PlexPass and each user has it’s own Xbox profile. I hope it is just a bug that can be fixed in an upcoming release.
Thanks,

its the same for me. first i installed plex as me. then i created an xbox account for my wife and logged in to plex with my username and password. now if she logs out of xbox and i log in i must log in to / setup plex again. thats bad.
maybe gets fixed when its not plex pass only? else we are still stuck with intel nuc and plex home theater
I'm sorry you're experiencing this... I've logged it internally and we'll investigate further. I hope that we can identify the issue(s) and have a fix out as soon as possible.

Uh oh. This would be more than slightly annoying if this is the case... We have three accounts on our xbox.
Now I really can't wait to test at home. Argh!
I might have jumped to a conclusion too quickly... The problem here is that you cannot have multiple different Microsoft Live accounts linked to the same Plex account. This means that when you connect the second user, it's unlinking the first one. At the moment, every Plex account needs to be separate and also have a Plex Pass in order to work correctly.
We're looking into future solutions which will work better for the "family" scenario.

Ouch.
This is a major issue for me as well, as the XB1 switches profiles based on who is in the room at the time. Â If my wife is at home wanting to watch something she will need to manually switch to my profile for it to work.

There are a number of things we're actively working on to resolve this... but I will go back and report this so that we can prioritise appropriately. I appreciate it's not ideal, and we'll do everything we can to make it better.
Thanks for your patience

Thanks, Ian. You have had an extremely busy day.
Hopefully, this gets a fairly high priority. It seems like it may affect a lot of users.

It's even worse than that... if multiple family members are watching something, all with live accounts (which I'd imagine is fairly commonplace) and the 'owner' of the Plex app leaves the room... buh bye Plex. There are a lot of scenarios where this is a big problem.
The only way around this kind of thing is to turn off sign in recognition, which is one of the handiest things about XBO.
Hopefully this is resolved in the very first update.

Thanks Ian, really appreciate your work and response here.
One additional scenario to think about: I will soon have 2 different xbox ones in my house, and the secondary one will mostly be used by visitors (friends etc). I currently have a roku there and use a different plex account on there to keep it from messing up my bookmarks etc. I'd recommend looking at all the accounts on the xbox to determine if one is a plex pass member (or just the active user and the accounts that list that console as the "home" console).
Alternatively, how about allowing plex pass users to "share" plex pass to say 2-3 accounts, similar to how multi user works. I currently have 2 plex accounts, with just the primary being a plex pass member. In the end I guess the solution would be to simply purchase the Plex for xbox App for the other accounts once it is available.
It's been a while since I set up my Xbox, but isn't there a "main" or "home"Â account, regardless if all have live accounts or not? I thought that was the way it worked... But I could be misremembering :)
This might he connected to the dim Plax logo issue, as I was playing around with setting up my 2nd user before signing back in as myself.
I think that might have confused it....
I am failing so far to have this issue.
Switching profiles seems to keep Plex working.
Not sure for how long though.
But the scenario described is a issue indeed if true, my wife and kids really expect to be able to watch movies while I am not home.
I'm trying hard not be negative here, especially after shelling out for a lifetime Plex Pass membership, but I'm struggling. So my kid sitting next to me on the couch can't use Plex to watch their movies unless 1) I make them all use my Xbox account, or 2) buy everyone in the house their own Plex Pass membership. Are there any other options that I'm missing?
We have this issue as well, with four xbox profiles (two adults, two kids). Only I can log into Plex.Â
We also have two xbox ones. Where this becomes a big issue for us, is if I want to play a game on one xbox, and someone wants to watch something on plex on the other xbox. One of us is dissapointed because I can only be logged into one console at a time.Â
We love the voice commands in this app, but until we can have access on multiple profiles, we will probably be sticking with our Chromecast solution.
Thanks!
Anyone link plex to a child account to see if age restrictions on the xbox one profile carries over to the plex app? That would be awesome once the family account issue is worked out.
Went back to my Roku and I am cancelling the plex pass. Xbox One sounded great, but now I have to pay for a plex pass to use it and have account login issues to watch my own content. Doesnt detect my server on top of it. Never had these issues before. I should have known better when MS gets involved with something simple. Plex is still amazing none the less.
Ouch.
Yep. Plex has clearly chosen monetization over usability with this policy. Even Microsoft has a friendlier policy by allowing multiple accounts use Xbox Live as long as the home account user has a gold account.

While I'm a bit frustrated by this I don't believe that's the case at all. I think it's a matter of it having not been fully thought out for various use cases. Also it's important we remember this is the initial release and only out for Plex Pass members. By the time it releases to the general public as a paid app I'm confident this will have been resolved.
