Multiple version movies: Windows Plex client always plays 4K HDR version on standard HD screen

I started to use multiple versions of the same movie on my Plex server. Mostly 1080p and 2160p (4K).

Now the Plex Windows client always plays the 4K version by default. I have a standard HD resolution screen (1920 x 1080) connected to my windows box (single display). This is not only a wrong decision by Plex regarding the resolution when having a 1080p version of the movie as well, it also results in a too dark movie because the 4K version has HDR and my screen hasn’t.

I can cancel playback and manually select the 1080p version for playback, but I’d have to do this in every case of multiple versions of a movie and on every playback.
