Last weekend, I set up my first Plex server. I am using it for music only at the moment. My question is this: I want to type in the liner notes for many of the albums in my collection, but there does not seem to be a text field specifically devoted to this purpose in the Plex edit screens. Am I missing something? The closest I can find is the Reviews field. If I enter liner notes into this field, will they get replaced if Plex later finds reviews of the album? Typing in liner notes is a lot of work–I don’t want to do it if that work will be lost because I am using the wrong field.

Yes, you can use this for your liner notes.

Only if you later use ‘fix incorrect match’ on the album, it might under some rare circumstances.
But I recommend you to do this anyway:
create a text file in the folder of this album on your disk (you are using ‘album’ folders, do you?)
call it liner notes.txt and save your text into there first.
You can copy & paste from there if for some unexpected reason the text should get lost from within Plex.
Quite a few sites I buy music from include a PDF of the liner notes with the purchase. (I also occasionally OCR liner notes from a manual scan.) Is there really no official place to store these in a Music/Artist/Album file directory tree - and get Plex server to offer them up, or a Plex app to show them?
I appreciate the recommendation to store them as a per-CD “liner notes” file. But that is - apparently - just dead storage from the Plex server’s point of view.
True. But there is still hope that someone may write a metadata agent to read those txt files.
And a txt file is the most basic file format, so it may be also of use in other players.
I too would like to have some way to display liner notes. I’ve downloaded music from HDTracks that include beautifully rendered pdf’s, and I would like to be able to look through them as I listen to the album. I think it would also be great to be able to scan liner notes from my CD collection and be able to view those as well. On top of that, I think uploading scanned liner notes to the Plex community, and eventually be accessible to scrapers, would be awesome.
