Music albums being grouped together

It didn’t used to be this way, but is there a way to stop having albums grouped together? There are multiples ways it is being done and I want it to stop so I can manage my library.

For example, I have the Miles Davis Complete Columbia Albums Collection and it’s 70 CDs I believe. What is happening now, is some parts of the collection get grouped together, while other albums which I have different versions of (Kind of Blue, Sketches of Spain, etc) get grouped together separately. To say that is annoying is an understatement. I can’t find an easy way to break them apart either. I just want the scanner to list each and every CD in the library and I’ll group them as I want.

Is that even possible?? It used to be that way.

You have basically 2 options… both rely on proper input for Plex to catalog your media:

Option 1: If you’re using embedded metadata to manage your music

Make sure the embedded metadata is reflecting the individual albums – and the album tag is NOT “Miles Davis Complete Columbia Albums Collection”, with Disc x of 70.

Option 2: If you’re using folder structure and file names to manage your music

Make sure the folder structure reflects the individual albums… basically the same as above, just with the album artist / album name being represented by folder/file names instead of embedded metadata.

I should have said originally that the metadata is accurate and complete. However, in my example, I do name each album in the collection like this, The Complete Columbia Albums Collection, Disc 11 [Kind of Blue] so to accurately represent my CD collection.

The Plex scanner seems to scan by track names versus album titles, because I have multiple examples similar to the Miles example where the album in the collection gets combined with any other version of the album I have.

I have my library setup to only use local data as much as possible. I just wish there was an additional option to have Plex scanner leave well enough alone and don’t assume how I want my albums represented. Just read the tags, and album art and create the album on my library and let me group as I want.
