I have a couple of multi-disk live albums. Each disc is a different show, so on my local server, each disc is treated as a separate album. Plex insists on merging all discs down to one multi-disc album. Admittedly, they were part of one album originally, but that’s now I have them organized. How do I get Plex to respect the way I organize my music?
you can manually edit the tracks in a disk and set the album name to something different.
for example, if I wanted to split out disk 2 from this 15 disk set, select disk 2 tracks, click the pencil at the top, change the album to whatever something different album name (disk 2: live at where ever)
Let me rephrase the question slightly. Is there a way to get Plex to respect my organization on import so I don’t have to do what you’re suggesting?
well, maybe.
in general, if you have prefer local metadata enabled, then plex should respect most of your tags, but organization also will affect how plex matches things.
if this is not already enabled, you will need to enable it, rescan and refresh all metadata (either at library level, or artist level).
What does your folder structure and file naming look like on these Albums?
It was already checked, but Plex still insists on being “helpful” in a way that’s kind of annoying. What’s so hard about just reading the tags in the file and using that information?
Each disc in a separate folder named the album name I’m using for that disc.

Yeah, I feel the pain, I have live shows that get combined also. I changed my folder structure a little bit to help Plex figure it out.
I use this folder structure: Artist / AlbumArtist - AlbumTitle
I make the album title something different usually just add a date of the live show. Its spotty though.
So I make each live album a Disc 1 of 1 in the meta tag and it sometimes helps. Again spotty.
The other thing I have tried is simply unmatching the discs from plex then refreshing.
